Home care worker cooperative members and developers from across the country will gather September 12 – 14, 2016 in Dulles, Virginia, at the inaugural Home Care Cooperative Conference. The conference is organized by the Cooperative Development Foundation and hosted at the headquarters of the National Rural Electric Utility Cooperative Finance Corporation.
In addition to providing important networking opportunities, conference topics will include:
• Economies of scale through collaboration and joint services
• Growth opportunities: markets and models
• Increasing revenue through new services
• The economics of the home care industry
• Communicating the benefits of cooperative membership
While key to keeping seniors and the disabled out of nursing homes and hospitals, home care providers are some of the lowest paid workers in the United States. The cooperative model empowers workers and enhances their working conditions. The goal of this conference is to help existing and nascent cooperatives think in terms of systems and collaborations that can improve wages and job satisfaction as well as client care.
Through a USDA Rural Cooperative Development grant and support from the MSC Fund and other organizations, CDF will cover expenses related to travel, lodging and lost wages for home care providers to participate in the conference.
