WASH Expert - Zambia

In the last 60 years, NCBA CLUSA has worked in over 100 countries in the areas of food security, agricultural development, strengthening of communities and farmer organizations, community-based health, natural resources management, and empowerment of smallholder farmers, women, and youth. We currently work in 21 countries in Africa, Latin America, Caribbean, and Asia.

NCBA CLUSA is seeking qualified candidates for the position of Water, Sanitation and Hygiene (WASH) Program Director for the anticipated USAID Zambia funded Scaling Up Nutrition - Technical Assistance (SUM-TA). SUM-TA is a six-year integrated nutrition, agriculture, and WASH project that aims to reduce stunting, improve the nutritional status of children, improve dietary diversity, increase household incomes, and increase women’s empowerment in 30 targeted districts. This position will be based in Lusaka with frequent travel required.

The primary responsibilities of the WASH Program Director are to lead the design and manage the implementation of the WASH Component of the SUN-TA activity. The WASH Program Director is responsible for overall technical oversight, strategy and quality assurance of the WASH component.

The minimum qualifications for the WASH Program Director are:

  • Master’s degree or higher in public health, environmental engineering, social sciences, or related field of study
  • 7+ years of experience in managing projects/programs that focus on improving access to clean water, sanitation, hygiene, and/or public health
  • Previous experience managing USAID or Feed the Future projects is preferred
  • Proven experience in implementing CLTS and Essential Hygiene Actions at the community and/or household level
  • Knowledge of BCC and private sector approaches to increasing access to safe water and basic sanitation
  • Demonstrated experience in building the capacity of partners in government, NGOs, and civil society organizations
  • Demonstrated leadership capabilities with the ability to effectively manage large teams to achieve results
  • Strong interpersonal, organizational and communication skills (both verbal and written)
  • Ability to successfully recruit, train, develop, motivate and manage staff
  • Proven ability to effectively collaborate with government counterparts, donors, and other key stakeholders and partners
  • Fluency in English
