The annual distinction honors individuals who have made outstanding contributions at the local, state and/or national level to advance cooperative philosophy and ideals. A member of NCBA CLUSA, the Cooperative Network serves cooperative businesses in Wisconsin and Minnesota, providing government relations, education, marketing and technical services to a wide variety of more than 400 member-cooperatives.

For more than 35 years, Ziewacz has championed cooperative development. In 1985, she was instrumental in launching the nation’s first statewide co-op development center, now known as Cooperative Development Services. She was a driving force behind the establishment of funding for the Rural Cooperative Development Grant (RCDG) Program in the 1990 Farm Bill. In 1996, she became executive director of the Cooperative Development Foundation and later led the application process to secure .coop as a new Top Level Domain for use by the international cooperative community. She was inducted into the Co-op Hall of Fame in 2015.

Ziewacz took on the role of interim president and CEO at NCBA CLUSA in October 2015. In February 2016, she was appointed as president and CEO by the NCBA CLUSA Board of Directors and has since provided leadership during a historic time in the organization’s history as it celebrates 100 years of cooperatives that build a better world.

Ziewacz was joined at this month's banquet by fellow award recipients David Cramer, president and CEO of United Cooperative and Tim Harrington, chairman of Premier Cooperative.
