Impact Track: Co-ops and Sustainability

Sponsored by National Co+op Grocers

As member-centered businesses, cooperatives think about the longterm impact that their businesses and members have on the economy and society—including how to encourage more sustainable practices that have a better environmental footprint. This panel looks at how two prominent members of the cooperative family are leading on how to empower their members to use natural resources more wisely in the food supply chain. And their efforts have garnered national attention outside cooperative circles. Land O’Lakes, the nearly 100-old farmer cooperative, was recognized as one of Fortune Magazine’s 50 “Change the World” Companies for its industry-leading approaches for improving agricultural sustainability across the dairy, crop and feed markets. National Co+op Grocers, the business services cooperative serving retail food co-ops, was recently recognized by B Corps for, among other things, leading efforts to help its member food co-ops improve their environmental impact.
