IMPACT Track: Owning Work – Converting Small Businesses to Cooperatives

Whether in a rural community or a inner city, when the owners of a small business are looking to retire or move on, one option they can consider is converting the business to a cooperative owned by its employees. With the “Silver Tsunami” of retiring small business owners on the horizon in all types of communities, this panel will highlight examples, examine what factors make conversions more likely to succeed, and consider the type of technical assistance required to help ensure these small businesses continue to anchor their communities.
