A year ago, as NCBA CLUSA celebrated its 100th Anniversary, our Board of Directors embarked on a strategic visioning process to define our role for the next hundred years of representing people who use cooperatives to build a better world. Focusing on cooperative enterprise as a “Force for Good,” they discovered that the Seven Cooperative Principles align closely with the Five Indicators of the Inclusive Economy, as published in a recent Rockefeller Foundation report.

“The Summer 2017 issue of the Journal dedicates space to exploring this relationship in depth,” said John Torres, Editor in Chief of the Journal and Vice President of Communication & Public Relations for NCBA CLUSA. “It launches a conversation about how the cooperative movement can be a better advocate for, collaborative partner in, and driver of the inclusive economy.”

Our feature article, written by Danny Spitzberg of the #BuyTwitter campaign, explores what it could look like if the cooperative movement transitioned to a new norm for economic inclusivity. This issue also examines why co-ops are the best business model to drive economic change, the role good governance plays in the inclusive economy, and how a new vanilla co-op in Madagascar is embracing inclusivity.
