National Farmers Union

For more than 100 years Farmers Union has been the grassroots organization of of America's family farms and ranches. During its storied history, Farmers Union emerged as an influential organization that helped shape national policy, organized cooperative businesses that thrive today, delivered educational programs designed to build rural leaders, and provided farmers and ranchers with opportunities to be at the table. Today, Farmers Union continues to be the nation's premier farm organization dedicated to family farm agriculture, cooperative businesses, and rural communities.

Work at a Co-op

Co-ops are always hiring, and NCBA looks forward to helping them find the best candidates for the job. We see this as a service to the entire movement, as it will provide cooperatives with opportunities to hire people who believe in the model, while helping people find jobs that fit their values.

Co-op Types

Cooperatives are categorized in two ways: by type and sector. Cooperative “types” are based on their ownership structure and function. The two main types are consumption and production, and each of these can be organized among individuals or organizations.

Co-op Research / Economic Impact

The National Cooperative Business Association partnered with its members and the University of Wisconsin Center for Cooperatives (UWCC) to conduct research on the impact of cooperatives on the US economy

Co-op Sectors

Cooperative “sectors” refer to the industry in which the cooperative operates. Co-ops are found throughout the economy, but here is a list of industries in which cooperative models are especially common:
